So I haven't been able to update all the exciting things in our lives (or just the things. :)) So enjoy the pictures and stories as I fill ya in.
In January Brian had to go into work at midnight and claimed he saw a Coyote cross his path. I, of course, laughed and said that he was just so tired he mistaked a dog for a Coyote. But then a couple days later we say this fellow lurking around the brush behind our house.
Comet and he stared at each other through the fence for a while. We've seen a few Coyote's since then and it's always interesting. Brian found out that two of them can take down a cow, so that made us a little more nervous about Comet being outside when they are around. Interesting though.
I've been growing my hair out now for about 3 years. It's beautiful and long, but I have been finding myself with it down less and less. Quite boring I guess. So I decided to hack it off. I went drastic, 12 inches off to send to Locks of Love and I love the simplicity of the short length. The gal who cut it did a magnificent job. I also got some subtle highlights. Let's just say I'm in LOVE with it.
What came off for Locks Of Love
A few weeks ago I took Trey to his 6 month check up. I was surprised when they told me that Trey is only in the 4% percentile for height but the 48% percentile in weight. But when I looked at his previous measurments I realized that indeed he's only grown about 3.75 inches since birth. Kinda cracks me up cause he really is a pudge, but that's how we love our kiddos, short and stout. :)
For about 2 months now I've been planning on going to my sister's baby shower in February, but had hoped to surprise her. Apparently neither me, my other sister, my brother-in-law or my mom are very good at keeping secrets cause sweet Britty knew I was coming. :) But it was an absolute blast helping my little sis, Elena, plan the event. Elena did the decorations (boy were they fabulous) and the guest invites. Together we planned the food and games, and I did the diaper cake and a few other small things. The party was a HIT!! There were 48 people in attendance, the games were a hoot, and Britt got gobs of wonderful gifts! It was awesome. Elena cracks me up because the day before the shower she decided we should have a real cake. Now, as everyone knows, I am no baker. In fact, I typically slaughter cakes (see this post to really see what I mean). But I got lucky on my first try with our last minute cake and together we made a nice butterfly cake for her shower. (The theme was butterflies.)
Our last minute cake
My diaper cake creation. It was a blast to make and I loved the way it turned out.
Brian wasn't planning on making the 8 hour trip to Utah with us the weekend of the Shower, but somehow I convinced him that I would love to have him come along. So as a family we headed west. The day we got there Brian's mother called him to let us know that Brian's grandpa had passed away. We were both really glad he had tagged along so that he could be there for the Funeral that would happen the following Wednesday. Nice enough, Brian was able to get a week off from work for the services.
The services were small and nice. It's always hard to see a loved one go, but as a family we felt strong. Grandpa Caldwell was 92 and had lived a long, full life. It was good to celebrate his wonderful life.
While in Utah, my ever talented sister, Elena, taught me how to crochet a baby blanket. It was really awesome to learn and I took to it right away. I probably spent 12-15 hours working on it and now it's finished. I'm excited to continue to learn and do more. Now I just need people to give them to. I can't keep all the creations I want to make. :)
On Saturday night all the King girls in town (and a few of the spouses) got together for a grand girls night out (with a couple tag-a-longs). We decided to go to a restaurant called Charlie Chow's Dragon Grill. It was AMAZING!! I highly recommend it if you like Chinese cause it was phenomenal! I could totally stand to go back again.
Afterwards we made our way over to the dollar theaters to see "In Time". I'm not a big movie buff and I probably haven't seen a quarter of what has been going through the theaters in the last year, so I had no clue what this movie was about. But if you are looking for a good movie, I recommend it. I enjoyed it.
Valentine's Day is pretty much just like any other day to Brian. So I have gotten used to not really worrying about if we are going to do something, because unless I plan it, it ain't happening. No worries though, it's not a big deal. So yesterday was pretty much the same as always, but I do have to say that I can now boast that I've received flowers a total of 5 times in our almost 7 years of knowing each other. :) I also got a heart shaped box of chocolates. (So much for the diet, each of those suckers is 100 calories!) Brian was gracious enough to help me eat the lot of them. :) I had bought him a tie with soccer balls on it. He's been going on lately about wanting to be able to wear a different tie every week of the year and that he wants ones to match the holdiays through out the year. I couldn't find a Valentine's tie so I went with the next best thing, anything soccer related. He seemed to like that. :)
Later he asked me if he had done well for Valentine's. It's a good thing neither of us get offened easily, cause I chuckled and he asked with a smile on his face, "What?" I told him that it was a sweet guesture, but it pretty much read like this. If you bring home flowers and a box of heart shaped chocolates from the local grocery store on your way home than you didn't plan anything and it was a last minute attempt to please the lady. I let him know that if he really wanted to make it special, he'd actually have to plan something. We both kinda laughed at this cause I think we both know that probably won't happen. :) But that's okay, I knew who I was marrying and I wouldn't change it for anything. Although, my fabulous hubby was much, MUCH more romantic before we got married. He tells me he used up all his good ideas just getting me to the alter. :) Silly man, but boy do I love him!
Ian was hilarious on our trip to Utah. He ended up missing 3 days of school (not planned and he wasn't happy about it) and all the homework that came with it. So while Brian was sitting at the table studying his homework, Ian asked if he could also do homework. So for about an hour a day Ian sat next to his daddy writing his letters. I was quite impressed. So then yesterday Ian asks me if he can do homework. I grab his notebook, hand him a pencil and walk off to take care of Trey. About 45 minutes later Ian tells me he's done and wants to play. I tell him that's fine and he hops down. I went to put away his notebook and find that the entire page is full of letters, all 26 letters of the alphabet to be exact. He had done them in order, both lower and upper cased, just copying from the chart above. I was super impressed. He hadn't even learned to write K-Z at school yet. I have to say, I have quite the amazing little guy! I just hope he keeps up the 'want' to do homework so it's not a fight when's he's older. One could hope right?
We've finally made the move. What move? you may be asking. Well, Trey has now migrated his way across the hall into his big brother's room. He is no longer in my closet (I know that sounds horrible, but his crib fits perfectly in there). I just hope that he sleeps well in there and that the two don't wake each other up all the time. We shall see.
Trey has been a fabulous little eater when it comes to solids... so I never expected him to have an issue with any of it. But we've been struggling with peas. He DOES NOT fancy them at all. So today I got a picture of his reaction to the peas. He puffed his lip out and gave me a nice glare. :) Silly boy.
On another not, he's super close to crawling, but right now he just rolls around every where as if that is the best mode of transportation. He's totally on his own time frame, and I'm okay with that.
Well folks, that's it for now. Sorry to bombard you with so much at once, but hey, you still love me. Right? :)
